Bay Area health advocates and doctors welcome recommendations

A patient's story

San Francisco resident Shirley Barger, 62, thinks she may have contracted the virus back in 1969 but didn't get tested until 2003. Increasing fatigue along with aches and pains prompted her to ask her doctor to test her for hepatitis C.

"I suggested hep C just for the heck of it because I hadn't been tested, but I didn't think I had it," said Barger, a systems administrator at City College of San Francisco.
