LAS VEGAS – Doctors here are urging the Asian and Filipino community to screen for Chronic Hepatitis B, a liver disease that could result in death if not treated immediately.
“The Asian population are catching up with the very bad habit of the Caucasians: obesity, diabetes, poor diets and sedentary lifestyles,” said Dr. Robert Gish, a clinical professor of Medicine, and the section chief of hepatology and co-director of the center for Hepatobiliary Disease and Abdominal Transplantation at the University of California, San Diego. “Having a fatty liver is a consequence of being overweight and a fatty liver worsens Hepatitis B and increases the risk of cirrhosis and cancer.
